Location: Portland, OR (Fully Onsite)
Type: Direct Hire or Temp-to-Hire

Salary: 80-95k DOE

About the Opportunity

This is a newly created, high-impact role supporting a growing organization undergoing a major payroll system transformation. The Senior Payroll Lead will own and administer payroll for two entities while helping drive a key implementation project converting from ADP to Paycom. The ideal candidate brings strong payroll expertise, polished communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment.

This position is fully onsite in the Portland office and offers an annual profit-sharing bonus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and process full-cycle, multi-state payroll for two entities (OR, WA, CA).
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert during the payroll system conversion from ADP to Paycom-Q1 implementation with a Q2 go-live.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and timeliness while maintaining confidentiality and strong internal controls.
  • Manage payroll-related reporting, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure alignment across systems and processes.
  • Take over payroll responsibilities currently handled by the VP of Finance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of wage and hour laws, including prevailing wage (preferred but not required if other core skills are strong).
  • Act as a polished, professional representative of the department, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • Experience operating in a stand-alone or close to stand-alone payroll role.
  • Multi-state payroll experience (OR, WA, CA).
  • Payroll system implementation experience (Paycom strongly preferred).
  • Strong communication skills with a poised, polished presence.
  • Positive, proactive attitude and ability to adapt in a changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field.
  • Experience with commissions.
  • Previous experience with Paycom or ADP.
  • Prevailing wage and LCP compliance experience a plus.

Compensation & Structure

  • Salary range: $80-95k (sweet spot: $85-90k)
  • Annual profit-sharing bonus
